Nostalgia. Growing up in a very flat state, it wasn't until I experienced being in the mountains when I was able to fully recognise the grandeur of them, and how they communicate to us in their own ways in nature. This walk in particular was a memorable one in some incredible, awe-inspiring ways. . . . #pnwonderland #splendid_woodlands

Ok VW fam, need a noise diagnostic. Every MK4 VW I’ve ever had made this noise on the passenger side. It sounds like some kind of pump but I have no idea what it is or if it’s normal. When I’ve got the hood popped it sounds like it’s coming from the coolant rez or the power steering rez. EDIT: it you leave the vehicle running for a couple of minutes the noise gets faster and faster until it stops. But it sounds like some kind of pump... air pump maybe? Any ideas? @tylerjamesinc #vw #vwjetta #jetta #mkv #gli #glijetta #fail #fml #mkvgli #mkvkids #pnw #pnwonderland #pnwlife #washingtonstate #wastate #bluelagoon #bbs #dasauto #german #germany 🇩🇪

Under the right conditions, and at a certain angle, there's little gateways into other worlds

One of the many gems in Olympic National Park. It’s hard to beat exploring glacier-covered mountains and temperate rainforests in the same park. I’m stoked to be headed back up here in a few weeks.

Another world.

Last light on the Cali coast🌊✨ I spent every second soaking up the sun on this trip, and have been doing the same with the recent sun in Portland. Who’s out soaking up the sun today?☀️

I finally put the finishing touches out my #torresdelpaine experience blog post, and honestly I still have a hard time believing that I actually did it. The whole trip was my idea (yet another case of me making a compelling case to Mark why we should go somewhere via a slow and careful drip of books, podcasts, youtube videos, and instagram photos ) I was actually pretty terrified. I was genuinely afraid that I was going to get halfway around the world and I wasn’t going to be able to physically do the thing that I was there to do. That I was going to fail somehow in being outdoorsy “enough”, adventurous “enough”, prepared “enough”, tough “enough”. That despite all my planning and training and work to get ready, maybe I couldn’t do it. And I am self aware enough to admit that some of that fear came from hyping up the trip on instagram a little bit -- a sort of “what if I can’t finish and all these people think I’m a fraud” undertone to the genuine concern about my ability to be an able, cheerful, perky person in a context that fully had the potential to be 60 miles of walking uphill in the rain. The night before we started the W trek, despite months of preparation and training, I was still scared shitless — or the scared shitless that I had been for a while caught up to me all at once. I laid awake in bed for hours completely unable to sleep, running through hypothetical “what if’s” and an overwhelming, almost paralyzing physical response to the unknown. With every step I took that first day on the trail, the fears began to fade. It’s not often in our adult lives that we have the opportunity to do things that are so fundamentally and completely outside of our comfort zone. And these types of experiences, while generally few and far between, have the opportunity to create incredible space for growth in such a short period of time. Completing the W Trek felt like the bookend experience to my yoga teacher training in Bali in 2018-- a fitting end to a two year period of growth and change and facing fears to reach the literal (and metaphorical ) mountain top. It felt like the mic drop earned by chapter you’re glad you’ll never have to do again. (Continued 👇🏼 )

Over the past week we’ve experienced costal vistas, rainforests, mountain passes and deserts. Right now it all kind of feels like a blur but I’m just thankful for the memories and fresh air along the way.

Warning: Going to sleep on Sunday will cause Monday. Please note that staying awake all night does not prevent Monday. There is no cure.
