How I Made My SLEEP a Priority in My Life...⁣ ⁣ I didn't always use to care so much about sleep. I mean logically, I knew it was important and something I needed to dedicate time and effort towards, but work kept getting in the way.⁣ ⁣ I’d prioritise work above all else...⁣ ⁣ Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED sleeping, but when deadlines loomed, what other option did I have?! ⁣ ⁣ And when I did sleep? It was terrible.... I’d wake up multiple times a night, toss and turn and wake up feeling tired. ⁣ ⁣ It takes time to unlearn a years of bad habits, but it's possible reboot your sleep. Through coaching, I was able to overhaul my routine and finally reap the benefits of a good night's sleep. ⁣ ⁣ Here are my top 5 tips: ⁣ ⁣ 1. No screens for 1 hours before sleep (this is harder than it should be...trust me )⁣ 2. 30 mins wind down (for me, it’s stretching ) ⁣ 3. Confirmation self-talk (yes it feels ridiculous but👏 it 👏works! )⁣ 4. A guided mindfulness meditation (YouTube’s got you ) ⁣ 5. Preparing your room (it's gotta be dark, quiet and cool ) ⁣ ⁣ I’d love to know, what are your sleep tricks?

Will you take the plunge? In a few days (from Saturday > Sunday night ) we’ll be adding an hour to the night. Now the regular talk around this topic is that it’s being assumed that you have one more hour to sleep. This has always fascinated me because you do not need a clock being turned back to sleep longer. Simply going to bed earlier will do the same thing, or just ignoring the alarm on the other end of sleep. This choice can be made by you every day. ⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣However, you could see this specific change as a step into a new rhythm that might be your ultimate chance to change something in your early morning habits. A moment to bring in more of the good stuff and let go more of the bad stuff. My point here is that getting up earlier than you probably do (around 6 in winter times is ideal here in the West ) is good for your health. Scroll down in my feed to find the post on “morning persons and night owls” why. Waking up earlier (which leads to going to bed earlier ) is not only healthy, it also gives you a additional awake-time, to use for something that will benefit your health even more. Like taking the time to eat your breakfast without being in a hurry or doing a little work-out or even smaller things like drinking some lukewarm water after cleansing your mouth. Perhaps there is something you really want to change for a longer time and now this “extra hour” may be your first step. ⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣So instead of new year’s resolutions let’s start this weekend. Who is in and what are you going to do with that extra morning hour?

💛 DO YOU HAVE A HEALTHY AM ROUTINE? 💛⁣ ⁣ There are def certain times of the year where I feel like I am a morning person. But as the weather grows colder & the daylight hours get shorter, my bed seems more & more appealing 🙄 But IMO there’s no better feeling than starting off with a bunch of things that make me feel good for the rest of the day! As time has gone by, I’ve slowly developed a little AM routine that leaves me feeling refreshed & ready ☀️ Want to grow to love your mornings instead of cursing them?⁣ ⁣ READ ON TO LEARN MY TOP HEALTHY AM HABITS ⬇️⁣ *Remember that everyone is different & so will be our routines!⁣ ⁣ 💛 PLAN YOUR BREAKFAST THE NIGHT BEFORE: & then make sure you eat it! Boost your metabolism & give your body the energy it needs to start your day off right.⁣ ⁣ 💛 CLEAN UP: After I wake up I won’t leave my room without making my bed. A clean space = a clear mind!⁣ ⁣ 💛 GET MOVING: I personally love to train in the AM bc it makes me feel accomplished & I don’t have to worry about it after coming home from a long day! Morning sweat sessions can also help improve satiety after eating throughout the day. ⁣ ⁣ 💛 DRINK UP: To help kickstart my daily goal I aim to drink at least 16 oz of H2O before leaving the house each AM!⁣ ⁣ 💛 GET SOME AIR: There’s something so refreshing about being outside. Try getting 15 minutes of fresh air before starting your day. Walk the dog, eat breakfast outside, or just sit on your porch & take it all in!⁣ ⁣ What would you add to this list?
